ACC Cover - Sensitive Claims

At Avondale Counsellor, I am registered with Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) to provide fully-funded counselling under the Sensitive Claims Service.

This service supports anyone in Aotearoa New Zealand - including visitors - who has experienced sexual abuse or assault. This includes experiences that may have happened recently or many years ago, and also those that occurred overseas.

You do not need to have reported anything to the police.

Getting Started

You can begin sessions with me without first making an ACC claim.  The initial session or sessions, focus on building trust, helping you feel safe, and deciding whether I’m the right fit for you. You are always free to choose another provider if that feels right.

If you decide you would like ACC-funded support, I can lodge a Sensitive Claim on your behalf.  Together we will explore which of the below will best help your recovery, and create an Early Supports Plan.  You don’t need to wait for ACC to approve your claim to begin receiving this support.

  1. Short Term - Support to WellbeingFor some people, a short period of focused support is enough.A Short Term Support to Wellbeing pathway provides up to 8 hours of therapy.

  1. Longer Term - Cover and Wellbeing Plan. For others, longer-term support may be more helpful, and I will work with you to develop a Cover and Wellbeing Plan.

Additional support options After completing your main therapy, ACC can also fund up to 20 hours of “Maintaining Wellbeing” support over a three-year period. This allows you to reconnect with support when needed, without starting again from the beginning.

What to expect from ACC

Your first sessions will focus entirely on therapy - you won’t hear directly from ACC during this time.

Once a claim is lodged and further support is needed, ACC will assign a Recovery Partner who will work alongside you. You remain in control of how and when they contact you.

A gentle note

Experiences of sexual harm can affect people in many different ways. Seeking support - whether soon after the experience or years later - can make a meaningful difference to your well being.

You are welcome to take this process at your own pace. You are in control every step of the way.

Call or emails now to book a time.
